TECHNICAL WRITER
The Technical Writer is responsible for researching, developing, writing and maintaining training and procedural manuals and programs, job aids and related training publications for in-store technology and systems. This includes both existing and future technology and systems and includes both hardcopy and electronic documentation.
The Technical Writer is essential in knowing the detailed functionality of all Field systems, both current and future, and the ability to formulate “best practice” procedures and application for all Field Team Members. The Technical Writer is also essential for new system user acceptance testing for accuracy.

RESPONSIBILITY AND AUTHORITY

· The incumbent is responsible for having a full comprehension of existing Field systems including, but not limited to, the POS, RCS, Matrix+, CASSi.
· The incumbent is responsible for the creation and distribution of technical training including, but not limited to, procedural manuals and guides, job aids, on-hands applications, and demos.
· The incumbent is responsible for system testing as part of the technical documentation to ensure there are no issues prior to releasing to the Field. The incumbent has the authority to communicate any issues related to system testing prior to implementation.
· The incumbent is responsible to be involved in the design process and be looked to as a subject matter expert on application of new and existing systems.
· The incumbent is responsible for effective interdepartmental relationships and communications on all new and existing system.


ACCOUNTABILITIES:

· The incumbent is accountable for the overall timely, accurate, and operationally-focused technical writing reaching across all channels.
· The incumbent is accountable for the maintenance of programs to ensure they always remain 100% accurate in the Field.
· The incumbent is accountable for providing updates and status on technical projects through attendance in design and system review meetings.

· The incumbent is accountable for effective working relationships within Operations and IT to develop and deliver operationally-focused system training.

BEST PRACTICES
Continuous Improvement – All functions of position are dynamic and must be reviewed regularly for optimization. Regularly review technical writing quality and survey users to ensure output is meeting needs of users. Adjust technical writing and functions as necessitated by business.


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

· Educational
o Bachelors degree in Training or business or equivalent experience required
o 1-2 years of relevant Technical Writing required
o 1-2 years relevant Field experience required
· Skills
o Excellent written and verbal communication skills
o Knowledge and experience in training development
o Understanding of training and adult learning principles and philosophies
o Ability to train and develop materials for all levels of learners
o Experience and understanding of project management
o Strong ability to build and maintain strategic partnerships across all levels of the organization
o Willingness to be agile and capable of change with the needs of the business
· Equipment Used (Tools & Technology)
o Proficiency with Word, Excel, PowerPoint
o Proficiency in existing Field systems and technology
o Proficiency in other software for designing technical training such as SnagIt, Camtasia, web design highly recommended
