Capital One Labs is currently looking for a new Applied Application Architect to help design and shape our ever-evolving technology strategy.

Capital One’s San Fran, New York and DC based Lab teams represent a small and elite group of technical innovators charged with accelerating Capital One’s digital agenda through:
• The development and rapid delivery of next-generation digital products and prototypes
• Embracing and incubating emerging technology and open source products
• Collaboration with various partners in the tech, startup and academic ecosystems
• Seeding and extending innovation into the greater organization to develop key talent, consistent with that of a leading technology company

This role will be responsible for defining and driving Capital One’s strategy for leveraging emerging business and technology trends. The Architect will partner with internal business, IT resources and vendors to develop recommendations, solution architectures and working solutions that leverage new technology.

Within the Lab, we look to our Architects to provide guardrails and guidelines over our many rapidly developed pilots and prototypes. This is critical to our success, ensuring the safety and soundness of enterprise IT assets while not allowing any disruption of Capital One’s innovation agenda.


Responsibilities:
The Applied Application Architect will be responsible for providing technical leadership and oversight/governance within Capital One Labs. Additional responsibilities include:
- Define entrance and exit criteria for new technologies into the Digital Labs
- Define integration strategies with Capital One systems
- Lead pilot efforts to assess viability of technologies as needed
- Provide technical oversight to delivery teams and ensure architecture compliance
- Create and maintain the Capabilities and Services catalog for the Capital One Labs
- Develop buy-in with external stakeholders on innovation architecture guardrails, strategies, solutions
- Monitor development efforts and actively drive execution to ensure the innovation architecture guidelines are followed
- Stay ahead of the curve on emerging technologies and provide recommendations for adoption when they align with business needs and capabilities
- Build strong working relationships with key vendor partners required to execute Digital/Innovation strategies
- Mentor junior architects, tech leads and developers on the Digital/Innovation IT teams


Qualifications
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree or military experience
- At least 5 years IT experience
- At least 3 years experience in system architecture
- At least 3 years experience in large scale application design and development

Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering
- 10 years IT experience
- 5 years experience in system architecture
- Experience in financial services industry
- Ability to communicate and drive highly complex IT solutions to broad audiences – executives, business leaders, product managers, Legal, Security, and implementation specialists
- Proficient with providing information in visual form (Visio, Powerpoint) and has experience with selling architectures to cross-functional architecture and business teams
- Experience with large scale web/online and mobile implementations
- Experience with public and private cloud implementations
- Experience with information security at the policy, architecture, and implementation level
- Experience leading vendor selection activities
- Outstanding written and verbal communication skills
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision making skills
- Ability to frame an architecture strategy and gain buy-in from both business and IT executives
- Ability to define, structure and plan work independently
- Implementation/delivery experience with RESTful APIs
- Demonstrated ability to describe non-functional requirements (qualities) and translate into architecture constraints
