Position Summary:
Rakuten Ichiba is one of the biggest internet market places in Japan. We have been storing a vast quantity business data since we opened in 1997. The development team have been developing data warehouses and data processing systems to provide analysis to the business side. The number of Rakuten user accounts have reached to more than 90 million and we are running wide variety of services now. So it is very important to make decisions based on facts in scientific manner with data we have. As the businesses grow, the importance is getting bigger. We need engineers who can handle those big data for the demand in our company.
Rakuten is expanding the business worldwide. We are developing data processing systems as we proceed to adapt new EC system for each country. So team has occasions where they work with engineers in Asia, North and South America and Europe regions. If you are in the team, you will have opportunities to work with those skilled members all over the world.

We are developing systems such as:
- Data warehouse which stores a large amount EC data
- Sales data analysis
- Fraud detection
- CRM system
etc.

The successful candidate will implement data processing and reporting systems with his or her own efforts. The output must be accurate and delivered in time.

When you are in the team, you will be able to grow not only as an engineer but also a business parson through communications with various kinds of business people in the company.

Responsibilities:
- Extract appropriate data from data source and implement system so that business side can use the data.
- When it comes to relatively large project, you need to work with teams and take initiative in the team.

Desired Skills and Expertise

Minimum Qualifications:
- Development experience with Oracle database and Hadoop
- Development experience of BI system
- Knowledge of Linux or Windows server
- Knowledge of data processing with Perl and shell script (or similar programming languages)
- Experience of project management
- Professional career in IT industry more than 3 years.

Preferred Qualifications:
- Web system development experience with Java or PHP
- Knowledge of BI/ETL product
- Performance tuning experience of Oracle database or Hadoop
- Knowledge of scrum development
